About Ray
Ray Bingham is an experienced technology leader, investor, and board director. As a technology leader, Mr. Bingham served as Chief Financial Officer, Chief Executive Officer and eventually Executive Chairman of Cadence Design Systems (CDNS) from 1993 to 2005. During those years Cadence’s revenue grew from $360 million to $1.4 billion and a peak valuation of more than $7 billion. As Chief Executive Officer, the company’s technology leadership expanded through 19 acquisitions of publicly listed and private companies. Notable acquisitions included Cooper & Chyan Technology Inc. (CCT), Quickturn Design Systems, Inc. (QKTN), Silicon Perspective (SPCP), OrCad and Verisity (VRST), as well as a spinout of IMS, a Cadence start-up, creating a billion-dollar market valuation. Mr. Bingham also led Cadence’s global expansion into the emerging markets of China, India, and Russia establishing a global footprint.
Post Mr. Bingham’s tenure at Cadence, he served as Managing Director and Advisory Director for 10 years at General Atlantic, heading their Silicon Valley office. During his tenure, one of the most notable investment was TriNet Group, Inc. (TNET), an investment that yielded an approximately $1.0 billion return from a $150 million investment. Mr. Bingham served as TriNet’s Chairman and currently serves on the board of directors.
Mr. Bingham also serves as a Senior Advisor for Epic Ventures and previously with Boston Consulting Group and Riverwood Capital Partners. He is currently on the board of Health2047 Inc., an AMA/UHC healthcare incubator. In addition, he is a partner in Health2047 Capital Partners, an early-stage healthcare venture investor.
In 2016, Mr. Bingham co-founded Canyon Bridge Capital Partners, a global private equity fund focusing on technology investments (“Canyon Bridge”). His most notable investment has been the 2017 £550 million buyout and subsequent turnaround of Imagination Technologies Group plc, a global semiconductor and software design company based in the United Kingdom and listed on the London Stock Exchange. Since its acquisition, Mr. Bingham’s leadership has been instrumental in improving the company’s operations. Mr. Bingham has served as its Chief Executive Officer and is currently its Executive Chairman.
Mr. Bingham has had extensive public and private board experience. He previously served on the board of directors of Oracle Corporation (ORCL) (Lead Director), Flextronics International Ltd. (FLEX) (Chairman), Freescale Semiconductor (FSL), STMicroelectronics NV (STM), Fusion-io, Inc. (FIO), Spansion Inc. (CODE) (Chairman) and Cypress Semiconductor (CY) (Executive Chairman). In addition, he has served on various private companies as an investor and board member including UPEK Inc., Tela Innovations, and Mojo Networks.
Mr. Bingham has been an industry influencer through his role as the Chairman of the Electronic Design Automation Consortium and previously as its Vice Chairman. He continues to be a highly recognized business leader, in 2009 he was named an Outstanding Director by the Financial Times. Mr. Bingham has served as a member of The Business Round Table and a member of the Board of Directors of the Silicon Valley Leadership Group. He received his B.S. in Economics, with honors, from Weber State University, M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and an honorary doctorate of humanities from Weber State University.
